A Break-In in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. Teaching Homeowners a Valuable Lesson

A home is a safe haven, at least that is what most homeowners believe. This belief is usually upheld in safe neighborhoods like those in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. Most people who live in a nice neighborhood would not think twice about leaving a family member at home because the city is relatively safe, but there is a story that might make homeowners think twice about the importance of security.

A Rancho Cucamonga Story

Rancho Cucamonga is becoming one of the safest places to live. The place has even been referenced in Bugs Bunny cartoons and “Sesame Street” episodes.

This idea might have prompted Christian’s family, who lives in Rancho Cucamonga, to let him stay home. Christian is an 18-year-old young man who simply wanted to stay home, watch some television, surf the web, and probably flirt with a friend or two. In other words, Christian wanted to chill at home like many others.

Life had other plans for this young man on that day, which fell on Monday, June 20. The afternoon was quiet like any other day, but destiny was brewing a bombastic jolt that would change Christian’s life for years to come.

It started with a knock on the door. Christian could have simply opened the door without thinking twice, but something inside of him beckoned him to check who was on the other side of the door. The young man did not recognize who it was, and he immediately called the police. The moments after that initial knock started to rumble together, and everything seemed to be happening faster than Christian could have anticipated.

While Christian was on the phone with the emergency dispatcher, the knocking became increasingly aggressive. He heard footsteps in his backyard. The dispatcher knew that the situation had become dangerous and told the young man to find a room with a lock. This room was to be his sanctuary until the cops arrived, but criminals cracked open the door’s screen before the dispatcher could continue her instructions.

The young man rushed upstairs and locked himself in the bathroom. The acoustics in the bathroom allowed him to hear every sound and word coming from the intruders. The criminals laughed, joked, and celebrated when they found valuables to steal. For a moment, the intruders took possession of the place where Christian and his family shared treasured moments. For a moment, these criminals violated his home.

Christian placed his foot at the bottom of the door, knowing very well that the criminals could easily break down the door just as they broke into the house. He was not sure how safe he was, but that did not break his resistance and hope. The intruders’ began to yell that the cops had arrived and started to run out of the house.

A neighbor’s security system camera was instrumental in capturing one of the intruders attempting to make an escape. Two other suspects were apprehended by the cops as soon as they ran out of Christian’s home. Four other suspects were found in nearby trashcans and bushes.

Cops know that it was Christian’s swift actions that helped catch these criminals. It does not hurt that Rancho Cucamonga’s response time is quick. It is not uncommon for police to respond to an emergency in this city within 3.8 minutes. Another thing that was helpful was the neighbor’s security footage, especially because one perpetrator got away. The police are still searching for the invader with the help of the footage.

What Does This Incident Teach Homeowners?

The incident should definitely let homeowners know that Rancho Cucamonga residents have a police task force that is ready to help in any way possible. The potency of the force’s work and transparency has even garnered the attention of the White House. Yes, the government asked the police in Rancho Cucamonga to help it introduce more transparency in some of its government divisions.
Of course, this is good news, but the incident should also show how important it is to plan should an intruder come knocking or breaking into the house. The incident should also make it clear how important it is to install a home security system. A good system can help prevent these break-ins, help the cops get there faster, and assist in capturing these criminals before they victimize any one else in the neighborhood. If a security camera was installed in certain areas of the property mentioned above, this could have captured a clear picture of all criminals.

The following are just a few tips to consider should you be caught in a situation like Christian’s:

  • Constructing a panic room or secret room with a lock inside is a good idea.
  • Try to stay silent and hide from criminals if invaders are in the house. Besides, yelling makes it easier for intruders to find the people in the house and puts them in unnecessary danger.
  • Think of planning an escape if possible. This could be done by doing something as simple as purchasing an under-the-bed ladder that can be used to get a family out of the house in case of an emergency without being detected.
  • Be sure to consider a guard dog that has been properly trained just in case.
  • It is unwise to grab a weapon unless one has been trained to use one. Weapons could simply escalate the issue because no one knows how an intruder might react to an armed homeowner.

  • Remember to call the police as soon as you can should there be no alarm system installed in the house just yet. Rancho Cucamonga’s police emergency response team can only help when they are informed.
  • Hopefully, this story and its lesson makes it clear to homeowners how important safety truly is. Keep in mind that these are just a few suggestions. Homeowners can do a lot to keep everyone in their home safe. Surely, this is something that Christian’s family has thought about since that terrifying break-in. They have probably already took steps to make their home safer.
