Recently, tensions have been high across the nation in regards to police brutality and the unfair treatment of African Americans and minorities by law enforcement. This sentiment was shared in Pasadena in September of 2016 when a man was subdued by the police with a taser and passed away from the altercation with the police. The man’s partner had called the police for aid as the man was suffering from mental illness and presented a harm to himself. When he refused to drop his weapon, the police tasered him and he stopped breathing. CPR was performed, but the man did die at the scene. Protesters and concerned citizens took to the streets to demonstrate their dissatisfaction for the man’s treatment, as well as for other similar cases that have occurred recently in the United States.
